Moroccan Bath vs Traditional Spa Treatment: What’s the Difference?

A Moroccan bath cleanses and exfoliates the skin, a massage works on muscles. See the differences and how to combine both at our JLT spa.

Moroccan Bath at Relaxing & Healing Spa, JLT Dubai

People often ask whether a Moroccan bath is the same as a massage. They are different treatments with different goals. Here is how to tell them apart and how to choose between them at our JLT spa.

What a Moroccan bath focuses on

A Moroccan bath is a cleansing ritual in the hammam style. It centres on warmth, steam and exfoliation, so the focus is your skin. It should feel soft, smooth and refreshed afterwards.

What a massage or body treatment focuses on

A massage or body treatment is hands-on work using pressure and movement. The focus is how your body feels, whether you want to unwind, ease tension or work on tight areas. Our menu includes relaxation, deep tissue, warm oil, therapeutic and four hands treatments.

The main differences

  • Goal: a Moroccan bath cleanses and exfoliates your skin. A massage works on your muscles and helps you relax.
  • How it feels: a Moroccan bath is warm and includes a firm scrub. A massage can be gentle, as in a relaxation treatment, or firm, as in a deep tissue treatment.
  • Best for: choose a Moroccan bath when you want to feel refreshed and treat your skin. Choose a massage when you want to unwind or ease tight shoulders, back and legs.

Do you have to choose?

No. Many guests book both in one visit:

  • Moroccan Bliss: a 60 minute Moroccan Bath with a 30 minute body treatment.
  • Happy hour combination: a 45 minute Relaxation Treatment with a 45 minute Moroccan Bath, daily from 11 AM to 6 PM, booking only.
  • Larger packages: Moroccan and Serenity, Luxury Escape and Ultimate Relaxation add a sauna, and the larger ones add a jacuzzi and facial.

Which should you pick?

The Moroccan bath is suitable for men, and it is booked for one person at a time. See the full treatment menu for current prices, or read what happens in a bath in what to expect from a Moroccan bath in Dubai.
